Limited Time and Limited Quantity!

$100.00

One-half of a Hoosier Heritage Farm pasture-raised pig, processed into cuts that you choose.  This reservation holds your half pig, and the balance will be charged after we take your pig to the processor on 10/24/2024 or 10/31/2024.

This is a limited time, limited volume opportunity for you to buy a half pig and have it processed into cuts of your liking.

How It Works

  1. Reserve your half pig now.
  2. We will transport your pig to This Old Farm in Colfax, IN for slaughter on 10/24/2024 or 10/31/2024.
  3. Prior to the slaughter date, you will fill out an online cut sheet that describes how you want This Old Farm to process your half pig.  You will see a few options there.  The Butcher Basic, Butcher Basic with Add-ons, and the People's Choice options would be the most relevant for you, depending on what you want.  If you have questions, the fine folks at This Old Farm can help you make the right choices.
  4. When the pig is slaughtered and we receive the hanging weight of your half pig, we will then charge you for the balance of the cost of the half pig at $4.50 per pound hanging weight.  The hanging weight is the carcass of the half pig, with head, entrails, and skin removed.
  5. A couple of weeks later, when your pork is ready to be picked up, you will be invoiced by This Old Farm for processing.  Processing cost will be somewhere around $170-$250, depending on the size of the pig and the options you choose.
  6. Pick up your pork at This Old Farm, take it home, and relax in the knowledge that you have a store of high-quality, pasture-raised pork for your eating pleasure!

Common Questions

How much meat will I get?

  • The amount of meat you take home depends on a number of factors including the size of the pig, whether the cuts you select contain bones or are boneless, and how much ground product you select.  For a half pig, that will be in the neighborhood of 60-70 lbs.

How much freezer space will I need?

  • As a rule of thumb, 35-40 lbs of product will fit in 1 cubic foot of freezer space.  Plan on 1.5-2 cubic feet for a half pig.

What will be my total cost?

  • Again, it depends on the size of the pig and what processing options you choose.  You should expect a total cost (cost of the half pig that you pay to Hoosier Heritage Farm and cost of processing that you pay to This Old Farm) of around $550 to $650.

Are the bacon and ham cured with added nitrates?

  • This Old Farm “cures” bacon and ham with all-natural sea salt, celery juice powder, and seasoning for a no-added nitrite/nitrate guilt-free product. They use an all-natural hickory wood smoke with just a slight hint of smoke. The labels will say “uncured” to remind you to refrigerate the ham or bacon. If you choose a “fresh” option please note that the meat will not be seasoned in anyway.

Why buy a whole or half pig over just buying individual cuts from Hoosier Heritage Farm?

  • You get to choose how you want your pig processed.  Ham?  Bacon?  Sausage types? Bone-in vs. boneless chops? The choice is yours!
  • You will have the peace of mind that comes with having a good supply of high-quality meat in your freezer.
  • Value pricing.  Depending on the cuts you choose, you will save money over buying by the cut.
